Where are we

Matamata Croquet Club has been around for a long time, in fact we celebrated our 100th anniversary on Friday 25th November 2022 (delayed by Covid).

The Game. Nowadays we only play Golf Croquet. The other major game in NZ is Association Croquet and is played at other clubs in the surrounding area, though if you are interested it can be arranged by contacting the club captain. The official season commences at the start of September and finishes in April, though we play all year dependent on the weather, as our lawns are very well drained.

Players. We have a mix of male and female players of varying ability who are very active in tournaments at home in Matamata and in surrounding clubs in the Waikato, King Country, and Western Bay of Plenty.  We have some top players and hold a number of trophies which are proudly displayed in our trophy cabinets.

The club. Matamata Croquet facilities are considered to be amongst the best in New Zealand, and we hold national and international contests on behalf of Croquet NZ, as well as tournaments run by the Waikato-King Country Croquet Association.

Membership.  We are currently able to accept new members. To apply for membership you need a committee member to sponsor you, and a club member to second your application. Those who are new to croquet are required to attend 3 sessions with our club coaches. Thereafter potential new members may play for 3 sessions using our club equipment to see if they wish to continue. After this time you will need to apply for membership. If this is part way through the season the fee is reduced proportionately.

For those who work full time we have a Saturday membership at a reduced annual fee, and they play at 2.00 pm each Saturday. They are eligible to take part in tournaments.

Location. We are located at Pohlen Park with access from Smith St. Our official parking area is at the end of Western St by the Headon Stadium, from where we will transport you to the club.
